Save up to 50% on groceries using SHARE Colorado

All of us are looking more closely at our budgets during this time of economic struggle, so I thought I would let the 4-H community know about a resource called SHARE Colorado. I have used it myself and know many other families from all economic backgrounds who have participated.

This is their stated goal: "The goal of SHARE is to help families save about 50% on their groceries, while encouraging the building of relationships with their neighbors in the community."

Anyone can utilize SHARE. In fact, their motto is "If you eat, you qualify". Here's more information from their website: "Anyone from the affluent to those with struggling budgets can participate in SHARE. You see, even those who can afford to spend more for food are being good stewards with their money by simply being more frugal. What's more, the minimal profits in each share of food sold go to support this program and sometimes those who can't even afford to buy a share."

Where do they get their food? "We select about twenty items that you're most likely to buy at the grocery store, including fresh fruits, vegetables, and frozen meats. Then through a national affiliate network, we purchase massive quantities of these items at very low prices. At no time do we ever accept donated food for distribution. Then through a network of volunteers at our warehouse and distribution centers known as "host sites", we deliver the food to these host sites where you pick up your order."

Did you know that the Extension office is the host site for Douglas County? Once a month you can come down here to pick up your food order that is transported and distributed by a large volunteer force.

For more information and to see the menu items available for February, go to their website at
http://www.sharecolorado.com/ The last day to order online this month is February 16th.

Happy day to you all!
