The Douglas County 4-H Meat Judging team won the National Champion title at the 2008 American Royal Stock Show National 4-H Meat Evaluation and Identification Contest. Held on October 28, 2008 at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Colorado competed with 11 state teams in categories like beef and pork judging, retail id, retail cuts, and reasons.
Receiving a $500 award, champion team members Jordan McHenry of Castle Rock, Natalie Roberts of Castle Rock, Logan Lenz of Castle Rock, and Maggie Weinroth of Sedalia were coached by Paul Clayton, Terra Thorpe, and Kevin Smith. “We are very proud of these 4-H’ers,” said Terra Thorpe. “Their hard work and dedication has made them true champions. We hope this opportunity will provide a very bright future for them.” Jordan McHenry also received a $750 scholarship for her second high individual placing.
The 4-H team would like to thank their parents, the coaches, National Western Stock Show Jr. Livestock Sale Committee, Colorado State University Meat Judging Team, Colorado State University Animal Science Department, Colorado State 4-H Foundation, and the Douglas County 4-H Council for their help and sponsorship of this program.
Congratulations from the 4-H staff!
