Time to enroll in the Cloverbud Mad Scientist Camp!

Eureka! All kids ages 5-7 in Douglas County are invited to the 4-H Cloverbud “Mad Scientist” Camp on June 10 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds in Castle Rock.

We’re cooking up fun in the 4-H Science Laboratory this summer. Youngsters will mix up fizzy concoctions, be science detectives, and take trips through the Fun Dome where anything could happen. All our little Mad Scientists will play science games, make crafts to take home, and keep their energy up with snacks and drinks they make themselves.

“I went to the last two camps and they were both fun. I really liked making crafts, and being able to make my own snacks”, said Jenna age 8. “It was all really fun!”

This annual event is open to children ages 5-7. They do not need to be enrolled in the 4-H Cloverbud Program to participate. Cost is for materials and snacks only: Cloverbuds are $10 and non-Cloverbuds are $15.

The 4-H Cloverbud program is designed to build self-esteem through successful learning experiences. Each lesson addresses one or more youth development concepts: self protection, global awareness, youth connectedness, and career development.

Too Much Fun

Daryle Singletary's philosophy in the Country Western Song "Too Much Fun" is that you just can't have "too much fun." But let me tell you, there was a herd of five to seven year olds at Kirk Hall on Wednesday, June 4, that came real close.

Even the adults at Cloverbud Wild West Camp seemed to have entirely too much fun hoopin' and hollerin', ropin', dancin', playin' games, and just generally goin' wild! There were a variety of hands-on activities for the 17 Cloverbud-aged cowpokes who participated. It was even fun learning a little about our western heritage by roping steer heads, learning how to read an animal brand, making pipe cleaner branding irons, and tying licorice knots. The little buckeroos tried their hands at herding some balloon cows and then rustled themselves up some trail mix grub for the ride back to the ranch. But before riding off into the sunset, each cowpoke took down a wanted poster advertising the fact that he/she was, indeed, "wanted for having too much fun."

Happy trails to all those Cloverbuds who participated and don't forget that we will be trying to break the record for having "too much fun" at Cloverbud Primary Fair on August 2.
